Kick Butts Day is a chance for youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against big tobacco. Kick Butts Day is the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids’ annual celebration of youth advocacy, leadership and activism. In partnership with The Rapides Foundation and Central Louisiana AHEC, schools from Catahoula, Grant, LaSalle and Winn parishes are preparing activities and events in their schools during March to show their commitment to stand up, speak up and seize control against big tobacco.  If you would like more information, please contact christina@clahec.org.

       9    "Dress in Blue Day " March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month. Colon cancer is the 2nd deadliest cancer in the U.S., yet it is 90% preventable. Join thousands across the Central Louisiana area as we Dress in Blue to promote awareness about colon cancer and encourage people to get their colon checked.

At 2:30 pm, Montgomery High School will host a school assembly in which a commercial that students created will be shown. They will also be handing out Kick Butts Day giveaways.

  12    Just 4 the Health of It: Lowering Cancer Risk.

5:30 pm to 6:45 pm at The Oaks at LSU-Alexandria

The choices we make affect our chances of getting cancer. Three factors we control have a lot to do with our risk of cancer: our weight, our diet and how much we move. CLAHEC, LSU Ag and the Region Vl Cancer Coalition will present 4 sessions to LSUA students on how to lower cancer risk through healthy choices. Topics include — Stocking your Pantry and Reading Nutrition Labels, Breakfast for Champions & Health Snacks, and Dinner for Two. There will also be information on The importance of Cancer Screenings, Healthy Eating and Activity Lower your Risks, and Tobacco Use Increases your Risk of Cancer.
